- Appenzell interior - The canton of Appenzell interior-Rhodes is located in the north-east of Switzerland and borders the cantons of Appenzell external-Rhodes and St. Gallen. Appenzell's two cantons are enclosed within St. Gallen. The canton culminates at Säntis, at an altitude of 2,502 m. With 173 km2, Appenzell Inner Rhodes is the second smallest canton in the Swiss Confederation: only the canton of Basel-Stadt is smaller.
